Karen Wallace Karen has worked in Central London law firms for over 30 years, qualifying as a solicitor in 1993. She started her legal career as a civil litigator, but her work has always included an element of Family Law and she began to specialise in that area of law in 2005. Karen is known to be forthright and pragmatic with high attention to detail – because she knows that’s where the devil is! As a divorced parent she brings a unique insight and empathy to her work which her clients very much appreciate. Family Karen is a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors’ Family Law Association) and she believes whole-heartedly in its ethos of resolving family issues in a constructive, non-confrontational way. She trained as a collaborative lawyer in 2008 and is firmly committed to the conciliatory approach advocated by both Resolution and the collaborative law process. This commitment is borne out by her track record – in the last 15 years all of her family cases have settled without the need for a final hearing except for two. Private Client Wills and probate are a more recent string to her bow, where her knowledge and understanding of family dynamics proves extremely useful. She finds that many clients want a more traditional “family lawyer” who can deal with all matters in which families require legal help. She obtained the STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates in June 2022. Employment Karen also works on employment matters, specialising in settlement agreements on the termination of employment. She has regularly advised employees since 2010, from Banks, hedge funds and other financial institutions, newspapers, technology companies and law firms, as well as various other organisations. She has been involved in large scale redundancies and mutually agreed resignation schemes, and has advised over 200 employees in a six week period on a mutually agreed resignation scheme. On occasion she also drafts agreements for employers. In a world where it is so easy to sign documentation without reading it, Karen enjoys having the opportunity to explain agreements to clients so that they have a full understanding of what they are signing, and she regularly successfully negotiates the amendment of agreements to ensure fairness for her clients.
